Exploring the Magical World of Mathematics
PLACE VALUE DIENES BLOCKS
ACTIVITY
In this activity the teacher kept the different Dienes blocks and
pasted slips of different Place Values thousand, hundred, tens and
ones on her table. Then numbers were allotted to students and they
had to identify the Place Value. This helped students to understand
the concept better in a fun and exciting way.
This activity was then followed by a worksheet.
Division Activity - Pizza Fractions Activity

Skip Counting Circle

All the students stood in a circle and a ball was
given to the student who started the activity.
He took any 4-digit number and passed the
ball to the next student who was asked to skip
2 counts and tell the answer when the ball
was in his hand, similarly the ball was passed
to other students and every student skipped
2 counts and gave the answer (Who ever
gave the wrong answer was out of the game).
Once every student got the chance, the next
round started with skip count of 5’s, then 10’s
and so on the level was increased further.
Activity Fraction Booklet
This activity was a great tool to recapitulate the
sub topics of fractions:- The students made a small
booklet using (1/4 A-4 size sheet) . Everyday when
they learnt any new sub topic for eg. Equivalent
fraction or Types of Fraction; they wrote it on a
page , with a definition and example of their own.
By the time the topic fraction was completed in
the classroom, the student’s booklet was ready and
students made their own cover page for the same
and showed it to their teacher.
