Friday Folk Time @ DPS Greater Faridabad- July 21, 2023

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]“Folktales and myths, they’ve lasted for a reason. We tell them over and over because we keep finding truths in them, we keep finding life in them. ”

To connect our students with the rich collection of folk tales from around the world ’  Friday Folk Time ’, an initiative has been taken up by Reader’s Den club at DPS, Greater Faridabad, and its opening session was held on 21 July 2023. This initiative was taken to introduce the concept of storytelling to young Dipsites and promote long-forgotten local folktales and characters. Folktales can be used to help children study other cultural traditions, model positive character traits, learn about the consequences of decision-making, and even develop stronger reading skills. Every Friday this initiative will provide a platform to the interested students as well as teachers to either narrate a folk tale or listen to one narrated by others.

The event opened with an enchanting folk tale from our revered Principal, Mrs. Surjeet Khanna. The enthusiastic students and teachers congregated at the senior library of the school during the lunch break to hear a folk tale from their role model and guide, Mrs. Surjeet Khanna. Principal Ma’am congratulated Ms. Mamta Deshwal for taking up such an initiative and encouraged the Dipsites to ignite their mind by reading good books. She narrated an interesting folk tale that she had herself heard from her grandmother in her childhood. The story had a unique combination of ancient and modern elements. The audience was captivated by the marvelous narration of the story. The benign presence of the headmistress middle wing, Mrs. Sanjana Mahajan, and the headmistress Primary wing, Mrs. Ritu Jain added charm to the session. At the end of the session, Principal Ma’am was presented with a beautiful artifact created by the students of Reader’s Den as a memento. The winners of the summer Bingo activity were also felicitated by our honourable Principal Ma’am.

By experiencing stories from different cultures, children can discover valuable insights about another culture’s values, beliefs, history, practices, and customs. When children learn about diverse cultural traditions, they not only broaden their view of the world, they frequently develop a greater appreciation of their own family’s heritage. The session was a huge success as we received a stupendous response from the Dipsites and we look forward to continuing this awesome tradition of storytelling throughout this session.
