World Laughter Day
We celebrate World Laughter Day every year on the first Sunday in the month of May.
History
World Laughter Day was established in 1998 by an Indian physician and founder of the laughter yoga movement, Dr. Madan Kataria. He wanted to raise awareness of the therapeutic value of laughter and its ability to bring people together regardless of cultural or geographic differences. So he created the day. World Laughter Day includes laughter yoga sessions, laughter walks and public events focused on fun and positivity.
Why is World Laughter Day important?
World Laughter Day aims to emphasise the power of laughter to reduce stress, improve mood and develop a sense of community and connection. The day promotes the idea that laughter can overcome all barriers to make the world more peaceful and harmonious.
Health benefits of laughter

Boosts the immune system: Laughter helps produce antibodies and boosts the immune cells to enhance our body’s immune response.
Relieves pain: The endorphins released, when we laugh, act as a natural painkiller.
Elevates mood: Laughter releases endorphins and chemicals in the brain that promote feelings of happiness and joy.
Improves resilience: Laughter helps people deal with difficult situations by promoting mood and reducing the effects of stress.
Enhances productivity: By reducing stress and enhancing social relationships, laughter boosts productivity and teamwork in the workplace.
