World Environment Day
World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5, isn’t just another date on the calendar—it’s an important global event dedicated to making people aware and driving action to encourage environmental protection.
The theme for 2024
Saudi Arabia will celebrate World Environment Day 2024 under the theme “Our Earth. Our Future. We’re #GenerationRestoration.”
This theme underlines the collective efforts needed to restore land and biodiversity, protect biodiversity and combat climate change. It invites governments, organisations, communities and people to work together towards a sustainable future by taking actions that restore natural habitats and reduce environmental damage.
History of World Environment Day
The concept of World Environment Day emerged from the 1972 United Nations conference in Stockholm that aimed at human interaction with the environment. This global event marked the beginning of global environmental negotiations. The first festival on “Only One Earth” took place in 1974 that emphasised the need for sustainable development and the preservation of our planet.
Over the years, World Environment Day has grown into a global platform for public outreach with more than 150 countries participating in it. Each year the day’s celebrations are based on a specific environmental theme and host countries lead the celebrations by hosting events and activities that engage the global community.
Some of the ways to get involved in World Environment Day
- Participate in community events: Participate in events organised by local environmental groups, such as cleanup drives, tree plantation and educational workshops.
- Raise awareness: Use social media and other channels to share information about the theme and importance of the day. Engage in conversation and spread environmental awareness.
- Adopt eco-friendly measures: You can reduce your environmental footprint by making small changes in your life. This includes reducing the use of plastics, conserving water, recycling and using energy efficient devices.
- Support the environment: Donate or volunteer to organisations working on environmental protection and restoration.
- Educate others: Educate friends, family and your community about the importance of environmental protection and several ways they can help.
DPS Greater Faridabad chips in on World Environment Day
- We strive to make a difference on the World Environment Day by organizing a tree plantation drive at DPS Greater Faridabad. By planting a sapling as a token of love and gratitude towards Mother Nature, we endeavour to make a small contribution with regard to our environment.
- Dipsites take a pledge to maintain a pollution-free, clean and green environment.
- We’re committed to promoting environmental sustainability and encouraging eco-friendly practices. During this month, our student clubs initiate a special drive. This year, Agrani Club has launched, “Mango Tree Revival Drive”. The primary aim of this initiative is to assist farmers across the country in growing more mango trees. By collecting and distributing a large number of mango seeds, we hope to significantly boost mango cultivation and support the livelihoods of our farmers.
