World Day for International Justice
We have all grown up hearing justice delayed and justice denied. The cases of injustice and human rights violations must be dealt with firmly and urgently. The International Criminal Court and other institutions ensure that justice is served most appropriately for victims of torture, human rights violations, genocide and terrorism.
World Day for International Justice, also known as International Justice Day or International Criminal Justice Day, is celebrated every year to commemorate the endeavours and role of the ICC in the service of justice. Every year, World Day for International Justice is celebrated on July 17 to acknowledge the important role that institutions such as the International Criminal Court have in bringing justice to the victims of many crimes.
History
According to The International Criminal Court, July 17 is International Criminal Justice Day. July 17, 1998, marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute, the founding treaty of the ICC, which seeks to protect people from genocide, crime against humanity, war crimes and violence. July 17 unites them all and seeks to uphold justice, promote the rights of victims and help stop crimes that threaten world peace, security and prosperity.
Importance
World Day for International Justice is celebrated to make the world aware of the value of justice in serious crimes. It also helps bring awareness to those who have been denied justice for a long time due to many crimes such as genocide and terrorism. The day enables us to understand the importance of fighting for justice, human rights and responding quickly to crime.
