The Indian International Science Festival (IISF) held on January 17 and 18, 2024, at THSTI, DBT, proved to be an exceptional learning experience for the young enthusiasts of Delhi Public School (DPS) Greater Faridabad. This two-day extravaganza featured two major events, “Face to Face with New Frontiers of Science and Technology” and the “IISF Mega Challenge.” Notably, 41 Dipsites seized the opportunity to contribute to a world record by participating in the creation of the largest number of Wemo Satellites simultaneously, designed to communicate weather statistics up to a height of 200 meters.
The highlight of the event was the IISF Mega Challenge, where a total 51 talented Dipsites of DPS Greater Faridabad showcased their prowess by actively participating in the creation of Wemo Satellites. This initiative aimed at setting a world record became a testament to the students’ dedication and passion for science and technology. The satellites, designed to communicate weather data, not only fostered teamwork but also provided an invaluable hands-on experience in the field of satellite technology. The students were privileged to engage in a delightful conversation with Mr. S Somanath, the distinguished Chairman of ISRO. He lauded them for their inquisitive nature and inventive thinking. It was a unique and valuable experience where the students gained insights from his wealth of experience, and Mr. Somanath, in turn, was deeply impressed by their dynamism and innovative approach.
The event also featured “Face to Face with New Frontiers of Science and Technology,” offering a platform for students to engage in interactive sessions on cutting-edge topics. Discussions spanned various fields, including nuclear medicine, space advancements, agriculture, molecular biology, and biotechnology. Esteemed scientists and policymakers led these sessions, providing valuable insights into the latest advancements and future prospects in these domains.
Some of the dignitaries who graced the festival include S Somanath, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO); Dr N Kalaiselvi, Director General, CSIR; Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, and Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of Science and Technology.
