National Parents day
Just imagine where would we be without our parents, a caring couple who loved us before we were born? Parents tirelessly do everything possible and care for us throughout our life. They keep guiding us even as we become adults. That’s why it’s good to honour them on a special day, July 28, National Parents’ Day, which is celebrated on the fourth Sunday in July.
History
Parents are our greatest gift of nature. Nothing comes close to replacing them in our lives. Parents play an important role in the development of a child’s life. National Parent’s Day aims to promote responsible parenting. It goes the other way too, as the day celebrates parental sacrifice and the unparalleled love between parents and their children.
President Bill Clinton of the United States of America established the holiday in 1994 by signing a congressional resolution recognizing National Father’s Day in law. Republican Senator Trent Lott introduced a bill aimed at encouraging and supporting the role of parents.
Given that Mother’s Day and Father’s Day fall in May and June, National Parents’ Day is celebrated in the USA on the fourth Sunday of July every year by citizens, educational institutions, federal and local governments’ parliament and organizations acknowledge, promote and support parents role in their children’s upbringing.
The Parents’ Day Council largely promotes the holiday through conducting various ceremonies on this day. For example, the Parent of the Year Award on this day is presented to those who exemplify exceptional parenting and make valuable contributions to their families and communities.
