Our most valuable and most instructive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only.” – Mark Twain
India is one of the oldest civilizations in the world with a kaleidoscopic variety and rich cultural heritage. Folktales by their nature celebrate diversity and give an insight about cultural traditions. Under the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat’ project, Class 1 organized an activity named “Cultural Trip through Folktales” in the month of November, 2022 in which students were shown two famous folktales from Haryana and Telangana. They first experienced a tale from Telangana named “The Unwanted Guests”. They not only enjoyed watching the story but also learnt a very important lesson that with presence of mind one can solve even the trickiest of situations. Another famous folktale that was narrated to the students was from Haryana named “The Hoarder” which taught them no matter how much money or things one has, if they never spend or use it, it becomes worthless. Along with the important life lessons, through these tales students were able to discover the valuable insights about another culture’s values, beliefs, history, practices, and customs. Overall, it was an enriching experience.
