On 29 November 2022, Agrani, the Interact Club of Delhi Public School, Greater Faridabad inaugurated the very first in-school compost pit in the presence of respected Principal Mrs. Surjeet Khanna, Headmistress Mrs. Sanjana Mahajan, and Mr. Rishi Kumar, founder, and CEO, Council of Royal Roots. The Club initiated the installation of the compost pit in the school nursery adjacent to the Nursery Wing.
A compost pit provides a home for millions of living creatures, (most of these are too tiny to see without a microscope!) and it’s these mini beasts that turn the materials in the bin into rich soil-like compost.
The mission of the Club was to urge students to bring biodegradable items such as fruit and vegetable peels, eggshells, newspaper shredding, flowers, or tea bags. The students of Grade 4 and Grade 11 brought fruit and vegetable peels and put them into the pit along with dry leaves that they had gathered from the garden area of the school. Then, they took the pledge of not dumping wet waste in the bins, instead, they would bring this mission into action by producing manure in the school campus through wet waste.
Converting the wet waste into compost, the Club aims to expand its green impression and cultivate a better understanding of biological procedures.
