[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]“Experiential learning is a philosophy and methodology in which educators purposefully engage with students in direct experience and focused reflection in order to increase knowledge, develop skills, and clarify values”

One of the core aims of DPS, Greater Faridabad is to nurture sound mind and values in the students. We aim at immersing the students in various experiences and then encouraging them to reflect upon the same to develop new skills, new attitudes and new ideas. Keeping this in mind an array of activities was designed under our RIUW (Read, Ignite, Unite and Write) programme on 19th December,2022 for students of classes V to VIII. This included a storytelling Workshop, an author’s session, composing poems, writing stories (classes 6-8) and watching movie and writing its review (class 5).

A story telling session was organised for the students of classes V and VI. The resource person Ms. Seema Wahi Mukherjee, a well-known story teller coach and a puppeteer added vibrant colours to the session with her charismatic story telling style and acumen .The students were enthralled by her art and style. The session added to their knowledge about the art of narrating a story effectively with help of puppets.

Aiming to spread the love for reading among the students, an author session for the students of classes VII and VIII was organised. Ms Mamta Nainy, a well- known children’s writer and editor conducted the session. She delved deep into the mysteries behind some of the greatest pieces of Indian art and explored and explained diverse artistic periods and art forms. The  students found the session extremely interesting and engaging.

The Principal, Ms Surjeet Khanna enjoyed and appreciated both the sessions.

The students across classes V to VIII, composed poems based on the common theme of Christmas. The students wrote poems describing the festival of Christmas as a festival that brings joy of giving. The students of classes VI to VIII, knitted stories bringing in their own imagination and creativity. The activity aimed at exposing the students to practice the skills and techniques associated with the craft of story writing. Visual media can be great source of learning . Movies can help develop children’s cognitive skills, such as forming long-term memory and maintaining focus. The students of classes V to VIII were shown a movie, ‘ Wonder’. Later a review of the same was written.
