International Picnic Day is celebrated every year on 18th June. It offers a wonderful opportunity for all members of the family to stay home or drive out for a wonderful picnic experience.<\/p>\n

History of International Picnic Day <\/strong><\/p>\n

The word “picnic” finds its roots in the French “pique-nique” and was prominent in France after the revolution. It offered an opportunity to enjoy informal outdoor food in the country’s royal parks.<\/p>\n

Picnics also took on symbolic significance, representing the solidarity of ordinary people in times of political protest, such as the 1989 Pan-European Picnic, which was important in the fall of the Iron Curtain. In 2009, Lisbon hosted a larger picnic by hosting more than 20,000 participants and so it was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.<\/p>\n
